T by Dem introduction.
T by Dem has landed in Burlington, Vermont: Home of so many contemporary makers of everything from ice cream, snowboards, bread, amazing graphic design, great farm-to-table meals, chocolate, beer, breathtaking art, new music, and innovative crafts. As we are finding ourselves in the very core of a healthy, welcoming community, with a creative economy, that identified itself as "green" as far back as anyone can remember, we are inspired to model this everyday common sense, and keeping the torch of creativity lit, while inspiring others to wear our garments with pride.
I'm happy to call this our home.
Burlington won me over when I moved here for my 3'rd time. Yes, it took 3 times of trying to decide between Scandinavia and Vermont, considering work opportunities, and where it was most profitable to have one's babies. So after having 3 kids in Scandinavia, we rented our first house in town 2005. Since then, even if my main gig has been at AO Glass on Pine Street, one of my biggest passions has been trying to source good long lasting quality clothes in organic, or normal according to a lot of us, cotton created in an ethically just way.
I got to know By Dem, and things changed.
Since 2002, By Dem in Gothenburg, Sweden, has designed and produced a collection of apparel at their partner factories in Sri Lanka and India where they pay fair wages. The entire production from the organic cottonseed plantation to the sustainable printmaking is completely transparent. The result of their work is great quality textiles, similar to the one in our Grandparents old cotton sheet if anyone still saves those? The t-shirts last for years of washing and drying, and colors and seems stay intact.
This is a craft and not a fast fashion chain.
I 'm a partner with By Dem Sweden, and I'm inviting you to take action: Buy clothes in a way that will actually change the clothing marketplace. Step on board, and feel welcome to learn more about Slow Fashion and T by Dem. Please send us questions, and sign up for our newsletter.
I will be posting about life and any advancements we make in Burlington, Gothenburg, and India.
Thank you. Namaste.
